Caicedo has been vital to their success so far this campaign, but it is reported his glistening performances have made him the target of some of the league’s biggest clubs.

Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi is said to have turned his attention to a replacement for the Ecuadorian in the shape of Yasin Ayari.

According to Sportbladet, the club are interested in bringing the 19-year-old central midfielder to the Amex.

Ayari plies his trade in his native Sweden with Allsvenskan side AIK Solna, where he has already made 47 first team appearances.

If Brighton are to sign the youngster it may make those interested in luring away Caicedo feel a deal is more plausible.

Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United are amongst those rumoured to be interested in the 21-year-old, but it would likely take a sizeable sum to force a move away from the South Coast.

Albion signed Caicedo in August 2021 from Ecuadorian side Independiente del Valle for an undisclosed fee and his contact isn’t due to expire until June 2025.

Reports suggest that because of his impressive performances and lengthy contract, Brighton could ask for a fee in the region of £70million.

Liverpool are in dire need of a new central midfielder after an uncharacteristically poor start to the season which sees them sitting in sixth place, 16 points off league leaders Arsenal.

The Reds travel to Brighton on Saturday where they could face up against their big money transfer target.

Klopp’s side will slip below De Zerbi’s in the league standings if The Seagulls can win the clash.
