NEWCASTLE may bid for Borussia Monchengladbach forward Marcus Thuram in January.

Liverpool, Arsenal and Spurs are also keen on the son of France legend Lilian.

Thuram, 25, has 13 goals in 17 games this term and is in Les Bleus’ World Cup squad.

His contract is due to expire in the summer and it means he is free to talk to clubs outside Germany from January.

Newcastle’s Saudi owners are happy to back Eddie Howe’s surprise crack at the Premier League’s top four and have the cash to launch a big bid.

Another player Newcastle are reportedly in talks to sign is Argentine wonderkid Maximo Perrone.

The Velez midfielder has impressed this season in the defensive midfield role and has been the bright spark for the 26th-placed side in the Primera Division.

The 19-year-old’s good form has attracted the interest of Newcastle, who have opened negotiations over a £12million deal with his club, according to Argentine outlet Diario Popular.

The report suggests that the midfielder has a clause in his contract worth £7.8m, but an agreement between the club and player not to increase it means Newcastle will have to negotiate a higher fee.

This agreement has likely come into place as Perrone’s contract with Velez is set to expire at the end of 2023.

Despite only playing 33 games in the top division in Argentina, he is very highly rated, as Newcastle are believed to be willing to match the £12m demands.

Perrone could therefore become the latest young Argentine talent to make his way to England.

And Toon fans will be hoping any new signings can help maintain their Champions League push.
