Wayne Rooney in hysterics as fan dresses up as Man Utd legend in infamous lollipop picture for Halloween


WAYNE ROONEY has been left in hysterics after a fan’s clever recreation of his infamous giant lollipop outfit for a Halloween costume.

Back in 2003, still in his Everton days, Rooney was snapped licking a giant red lolly while on holiday, much to the enjoyment of football supporters everywhere.

Now, 19 years on, one fan Alex Williamson donned the same short shorts and tank top look, complete with the giant suckable sweet in a hilarious viral post.

And the post, captioned “Hallowooney”, managed to find its way to Rooney’s attention.

And he was evidently left in stitches with the recreation of the iconic photo.

The former Manchester United and Everton star responded: “Good effort” with laughing and thumbs-up emojis.

And the photo was clearly liked by others as well as it received more than 30,000 likes from users online.

Alex explained his inspiration behind the costume and how he has been left shocked by the reaction online.

He told LadBible: “Rooney was an icon of mine on the pitch and then off the pitch with his fashion.

“Ever since I saw the famous picture of him and the United squad out in town in their bootcut clobber, I’ve been an avid fan.

“The vest was the hardest thing to locate, until I found a T-shirt on Depop and did some DIY.

“I spent the evening watching Rooney’s first 100 PL goals before heading to my mate’s for a house party

“The reaction I got from my mates at the party was that I’d smashed it.

“I thought I’d get some replies on social media but not for it to take off like it has. I’m getting a notification per second!”

In the time since the original picture was taken, Rooney has not done too bad for himself.

He became Man Utd’s and England’s all-time leading goalscorer with a staggering 17 trophies won with a completed set.

The 37-year-old then moved into management when he hung up his boots and currently manages MLS side DC United.
