‘I know that’s crazy’ – Deontay Wilder says Anthony Joshua would BEAT Tyson Fury as all-Brit December fight axed

DEONTAY WILDER says Anthony Joshua would have BEATEN WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury.

AJ, 32, was in talks with Fury over an all-British clash for December.

However, a deal could not be agreed and matchroom chief Eddie Hearn announced that the dream match-up was OFF.

Hearn insists the matter is “still open for discussions” but suggested the fight is “off” as it stands.

Should a fight between the two Brits ever take place, former WBC champ Wilder, who fought Fury in a trilogy, has backed Joshua to come out on top.

Wilder says Joshua needs to change some things “mentally” and he could “redeem himself more than ever” following back-to-back title losses to Oleksandr Usyk.

The American said to Dan Rafael’s Fight Freaks Unite: “I can see Anthony Joshua beating Tyson Fury.

“I know that’s crazy – some people would think so.

“But I could really see Joshua winning that fight.

“I think if he changes certain things mentally, he could come back and redeem himself more than ever.”

Wilder is set to make a return to the boxing ring this month against Robert Helenius.

The 42-2-1 hard hitter hasn’t fought in a year since his trilogy loss to Fury in Las Vegas.

He has ambitions of fighting the top three heavyweights before retiring.

Wilder wants to take on Fury in a fourth fight – despite losing twice and drawing once already.

And he would like a slice of AJ as well as WBA, IBF, WBO and IBO champ Usyk.

Wilder claimed a fourth fight with Fury is ‘”inevitable” and a showdown with Joshua “will get done when it’s time”.

A meeting with Usyk has already being called for by the Ukrainian.

Once his return is complete, Wilder will then retire to focus on making music.
