NEWCASTLE are forking out OVER £100k-a-week on wages for players no longer at club.
Five of the squad were cleared out to allow the rich North East club to splash out this summer and add to their roster.
The Telegraph report that In most cases, Newcastle are still paying around two thirds of their wages.
Toon were forced to “sweeten” deals to persuade other clubs to take them off their hands.
Some of the the large payments are to cover the salary of players who are on loan.
But a chunk of it covers stars who have already left on permanent deals.

Jeff Hendrick – £50k-a-week
Hendrick is said to earn a hefty 50k-a-week after he signed for the Toon as a free agent in 2020.
The 30-year-old Irishman joined the Royals on a season-long loan after only 27 games for the St James Park side.
And the report claims Reading are paying a “tiny fraction” of his wages this campaign.

Dwight Gayle – £60k-a-week
Stoke signed Gayle from Newcastle on a free transfer this summer.
The 32-year-old striker penned a two-year deal with the Potters after becoming surplus to requirements at St James’ Park.
But the Toon are still paying a reported TWO THIRDS of his salary.
Isaac Hayden – £50k-a-week
Hayden still has a whopping FOUR years left on his contract at Newcastle.
He was sent out on loan to Championship powerhouses Norwich at the start of the transfer window.
And the Canaries are said to be paying just two fifths of his salary.
Although bosses sensibly added a clause to his contract so that the deal becomes permanent if the Norfolk club are promoted back to the Prem.
Federico Fernandez – £45k-a-week
Fernandez was sent to La Liga side Elche this summer on a free transfer.
And Newcastle are reportedly paying a decent portion of Fernandez’s wages.
The 33-year-old is one a one-year deal at Elche so will be a free agent after this season.

Ciaran Clark – £40k-a-week
Clark was sent to Sheffield United in the Championship for a year-long loan.
The Telegraph added that the Yorkshire club are only liable for a third of defender Clark’s salary.
