Barcelona ‘to relaunch Bernardo Silva transfer bid in January’ as Man City star’s dad confirms talks with LaLiga giants

BARCELONA are planning on relaunching a bid for Bernardo Silva in January, according to reports.

The LaLiga giants failed in an attempt to sign the Man City ace, 28, in the summer transfer window.

And they will continue their pursuit for the Portuguese playmaker – who has already scored twice in his first six Premier League games this campaign.

Despite their financial woes, the Catalans managed to spend almost £150million on new recruits – bringing in Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha, Frank Kessie, Andrea Christensen, Jules Kounde, Marcos Alonso and Hector Bellerin.

Barcelona have also managed to raise £700million by selling various digital assets, which makes any potential deal for Silva a possibility.

Sport claim that Xavi’s side can now add to their squad without any fear of spending beyond their means.

The latest report comes after Silva’s father confirmed his son held talks with Barcelona over the summer.

Paulo Silva admitted the move didn’t happen because “it was not the right time for all parties involved” to Stats Perform, via Mundo Deportivo.

“There were a lot of talks, but no concrete offer was made at the times we thought were right,” he said.

“When it came, we realised it was no longer the right time for all parties involved. Things have to happen rationally and it wasn’t the ideal scenario for Bernardo.”

City manager Pep Guardiola has said he won’t stand in Silva’s way if he wants to go.

Guardiola said: “He is our player.

“We want him to be with us because he is very important.

“Having said that, I don’t want anyone to be unhappy.

“But I don’t want him to leave because he is a superlative player.

“As a player and as a person, he is one of the best I have ever had.

“In any competition he is the best player.

“If an offer arrives there are seven days left and if Bernardo leaves we would have to go to the market and it’s not easy.

“Having said that, Bernardo likes Barcelona a lot.”
