An inspired Jordan Pickford, as part of an excellent Everton performance all round, saw Liverpool drop points for a fourth time in six games this season.

And Paul took to Twitter after the game and gave a rather bizarre take on the action.

The YouTuber turned boxer wrote: “Only team I don’t mind not beating is Everton. Let’s get it in Naples.”

Fans were left baffled that the 25-year-old didn’t mind seeing his side NOT win the game as he looked ahead to the midweek Champions League clash against Napoli.

One replied to him: “What mate?”

And even the BBC Sport’s official Twitter account replied: “Wait what?”

Meanwhile another pointed out: “They’re literally your rivals Jake.”

And a fourth joked: “He doesn’t know that they’re their rivals.”

Perhaps Paul was pointing out that he didn’t mind Liverpool not beating Everton, as long as they didn’t lose against the Toffees.

But the way the American phrased the tweet saw him mercilessly trolled by fans.

He got his pre-match prediction wrong too, writing before the game: “Nothing like a hometown rivalry. I got The Reds dominating the Toffemen.”

While Pickford was superb for Everton, Frank Lampard’s side had chances of their own to win the game.

New signing Neal Maupay was denied by Alisson at point blank range and former Liverpool man Conor Coady had a goal ruled out by VAR for offside.
