Grimsby vs Carlisle ABANDONED in first half after huge downpour leaves standing water on pitch making it unplayable


GRIMSBY’S clash with Carlisle has been abandoned DURING the game following a massive downpour of rain.

The two teams were well into the first half at Blundell Park when the treacherous conditions forced them to postpone the League Two match.

A statement from Grimsby read: “The match officials have brought an end to proceedings this evening, as the fixture has been ABANDONED.

“Further information relating to tickets, Mariners TV passes and a rearranged date will be published once confirmed.

“Please retain your tickets!”

And Carlisle also released a short statement on social media letting their fans know the game had been postponed.

They said: “MATCH ABANDONED – the ref has decided there is too much standing water on the pitch to continue #cufc.”

Grimsby’s match with Carlisle was the second EFL game postponed on Tuesday.

Earlier on in the evening, Forest Green Rovers announced their clash with Accrington Stanley had been called off.

This was because of a waterlogged pitch – leaving the League One side with no option but to postpone.

The EFL campaign got underway at the end of July, with this evening the fourth set of fixtures.

In League Two, Grimsby have four points from three games, with Carlisle one point above them.

And then in League One, Accrington sit one point above Forest Green thanks to a win and two draws from their opening three fixtures.
