Cristiano Ronaldo refuses to go to away fans after Brentford mauling before ‘having words’ with Man Utd’s Steve McClaren

ANGRY Cristiano Ronaldo snubbed Manchester United fans and ‘had words’ with coach Steve McClaren as his wantaway woe hit a new low after the 4-0 thumping at Brentford.

Ronaldo also appeared to duck out of a handshake with manager Erik ten Hag as he headed swiftly for the tunnel rather than go to away supporters.

United fans booed the outclassed Red Devils at the Community Stadium and many tore into legend Ronaldo on social media for what they considered his lack of respect.

McClaren was seen urging the Portugal hero to walk over to the furious travelling hordes.

But instead Ronaldo exchanged what seemed curt words with McClaren and quickly headed off the pitch – reluctantly crossing the path of Ten Hag.

One fan tweeted: “Whatever you think of his situation it’s not a good look.”

Another posted: “Part of the problem. Cancel his contract. Sign Ivan Toney. Young, hungry, hardworking and robust. Shakes defenders up.”

But a few supporters insisted Ronaldo was right to be furious after his side’s dire defending left the Bees 4-0 up at the break.

One argued: “He has all right to be angry. This is not his fault.

“His defence conceded those 4 abysmal goals. Why is the spotlight always on him?”

United are now rock bottom after two defeats from their opening two Premier League games.

And although Ten Hag claims he wants and expects Ronaldo to stay, the Dutchman admits United’s current squad is unacceptable.

He told Sky Sports: “We expected a different start, it seems like what happened last season has come into this season.

“We need new players, quality players.”
