FILL up your water bottles track and field lovers as the iconic World Athletics Championships has returned – and it will be on US soil for the first time EVER.

British athletes Dina Asher-Smith and Katarina Thompson-Johnson made their nation proud when they secured gold in the 2019 edition.

But the duo have had to wait two years to defend their titles as organisers were forced into postponing the huge event due to the global pandemic.

However sprinting icon Allyson Felix will look to headline the show and build on her phenomenal record as the most successful track athlete in history.

When is the Athletics World Championships 2022?

The iconic event takes place from TOMORROW – Friday July 15 and it concludes on Sunday July 24.

Each day will have various starting times but the opening day is scheduled to get underway from 6:15pm UK time – 9:15am in the US.

The British champion said: think it’s going to be an amazing Championships in the U.S.,”

 “We don’t run in America very often, and I would love to run in America more often. I would definitely love to run in America with the full TV coverage and the media attention that comes with a major championship.  

“I really hope there are more American meets in the future. Having a huge competition in the U.S. is going to be really important for us all, because it’s such a huge and exciting place to run.”
