Hibs star Josh Doig completes stunning £3m transfer to Italian side Hellas Verona

HIBERNIAN star Josh Doig has become the next Scottish foreign export after completing his stunning move to Italian side Hellas Verona.

The 20-year-old is the next in a long line of Scottish youth stars to head to the continent.

Doig broke through into the Hibs first team two years ago

He joins the likes of former Hearts youth teammate Aaron Hickey, ex-Hibs star Liam Henderson as well as Aberdeen midfielder Lewis Ferguson who looks set to join Bologna.

Lee Johnson’s side are set to receive more than Hearts ever did for Hickey in just one initial payment, before any potential sell-on clauses.

They will make back around £3million for the youngster.

Doig will look to complete a similar rise to his fellow left back who completed a sensational £18.8m move to Brentford last week little under 50-appearances after moving to the Serie A.

Doig first broke onto the Easter Road scene under Jack Ross two seasons ago.

His performances saw him become a firm fan favourite as he attracted suitors from down south with West Ham and Watford interested in the full-back’s services.

As a result of a bid being knocked back from the Hornets last Summer, Doig handed in a transfer request before signing a new deal to fend off any low ball offers for him.

On the move, Hibs boss Johnson told the club’s website: “This deal highlights the great work done in the Academy and shows the pathway for our young players.
