Burnley appoint Craig Bellamy as ex-Celtic loanee lands Championship coaching role and Vincent Kompany reunion

CRAIG BELLAMY has returned to England to join Burnley as their new assistant manager.

The former Celtic loanee was over in Belgium as Anderlecht’s assistant for two years between 2019 and 2021 after ex-teammate Vincent Kompany lured him to the nation’s capital.

And now he will reunite with the Belgian legend back in the Championship as Kompany recently took over as the boss at Turf Moor.

Bellamy is no stranger to the club after spending years in the Premier League with Newcastle, Liverpool, Blackburn among others.

His last stint in the league as a player didn’t go to plan though as he was relegated with his boyhood club Cardiff in the 2013/14 season.

But after nearly 10 years away from it, he will want to help their promotion bid so that he can face some of his former clubs from the dugout as Kompany’s No2.

He isn’t the only new coach brought in the door at Burnley as the new boss has recruited four others, including Jelle ten Rouwelaar, Bram Geers, Floribert Ngalula and Richard Bredice.

Speaking about the five new appointments, Kompany told the club’s website: “I am delighted Craig, Jelle, Bram, Floribert and Richard have all agreed to join and play an integral role in helping to develop the players and build a successful team at Burnley Football Club.

“I have worked with all five men before and I know the qualities and experience they will bring to the Club.

“We already have an excellent group of staff at the Club and collectively we are excited to work together as we prepare for the new season.”

Meanwhile, Celtic captain Callum McGregor has admitted that he and his fellow Hoops stars have had their heads turned – by Love Island.

The 29-year-old told Sky Sports: “We are a good group anyway, so we are always chatting, having coffees after lunch and the boys will stay down for a while.

“We’ve got a wee Love Island group at night, so that keeps us busy.

“All the boys are pretty social and it’s a good atmosphere at the moment, so we’ve got to keep this going.”
