Celtic-daft Rod Stewart pledges support for cancer-stricken Rangers hero Andy Goram

ROCKER Rod Stewart has pledged his support for cancer-stricken Andy Goram.

The Celtic-daft singer has donated a VIP night to one of his upcoming gigs at the Glasgow Hydro in honour of the Rangers nine-in-a-row hero.

The VIP tickets – which include meeting Rod – will be auctioned off to raise funds to support the Gers legend.

Reported in the Daily Record, Rod reached out to Tam Cowan after the columnist joked about his off-key Platinum Jubilee party.

Tam, who is hosting the fundraiser, said: “He said he was hoarse because he was recovering from Covid.

“It’s amazing that he that has put up a meet and greet for Andy.

“Love a man who offers to help out for a good cause, Cheers Rod!”

It is understood online bids have already reached £500.

The fundraiser for the Ibrox goalkeeper will take place at Airdrie Working Men’s Club on June 22.

Ex-Celt Frank McAvennie and other Old Firm legends are also expected to be in attendance.

Goram revealed last month that he had been diagnosed with deadly disease.

He originally thought he was suffering from indigestion only to be told he had Level 4 oesophageal cancer at the end of April having lost 4 stone in four weeks.

Doctors told him he had six months to live, which was later tragically cut to just six weeks.

Last week Goram was moved to St Andrew’s Hospice in Airdrie after receiving radiotherapy at the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre.

He said last week: “My specialist recommended radiotherapy. I decided to take his professional advice. I’ve said from the start I’ll fight on until D-Day.

“If this radiotherapy on Tuesday and my follow-up treatment prolongs my life I’ll be able to see more of my family, friends and ex-teammates.

“It’ll give me the chance to spend more time with my two grandchildren. That’s my target.”

Goram added: “It’s all been very overwhelming but the people around me, everyone, my son Danny, have been great.”
