Gerrard has already recruited one former colleague in Philippe Coutinho, and has been tipped to do the same with Suarez.
Suarez bagged a remarkable 82 goals and provided a further 46 assists in just 133 games for the Reds.
The striker broke down in tears after playing his final match for Atletico earlier this month.
Suarez spent two years in the Spanish capital, helping them to a league title, and would have liked to have stayed for longer.
He admitted: “I would have liked to continue at Atletico.
