Watch Christian Eriksen score brilliant goal just two minutes into emotional return for Denmark

CHRISTIAN ERIKSEN scored with his FIRST TOUCH back in international football after his cardiac arrest last year.

The Brentford star, 30, was called up to the Denmark national team earlier this month following his impressive club comeback with the Bees.

And in a fairytale story, Eriksen found the back of the net less within two minutes of coming on as a half time substitute in a friendly against the Netherlands.

It was a typically classy finish too, firing into the top corner from 14 yards out following a cut-back from winger Andreas Skov Olsen.

But as if the script wasn’t perfect enough, the goal came at the Johan Cruyff Arena, where Eriksen spent three years as a player for Ajax.

The last time Eriksen represented Denmark was that fateful day in Copenhagen 287 days ago.

He was loudly applauded by the entire stadium as he made his way onto the pitch for the start of the second half.

The midfielder returned the applause as he entered the fray before quickly getting down to business.

It was a finish that oozed sheer quality, and also got Denmark right back into the game, with the visitors trailing 3-1 before the effort.

Things almost got even better for Eriksen later on in the half when he thundered an effort off the post from long-range.

But despite an inspired performance from former Tottenham man Eriksen, current Spurs winger Bergwijn added his second goal with 19 minutes left to play.

That made the game safe for the Netherlands, with the hosts eventually running out 4-2 winners after an entertaining encounter.

There had been doubts as to whether Eriksen would be able to join up with the national team after he contracted Covid and missed Brentford’s 2-1 defeat to Leicester last weekend.

But after recovering in time to play a part, boss Kasper Hjulmand named him on the bench for the trip to Amsterdam.

Eriksen revealed in January, before signing for Brentford, that he wanted to play at this year’s Qatar World Cup.

And performances like the one tonight will do his chances of selection no harm at all.
