  • FT: Egypt 1-0 Senegal

Saliou Ciss’ own goal separates the teams.

As harsh as it is to call it an own goal as the defender did not know much about it.

Senegal played well but just could not breakthrough the Egypt defence.

  • Egypt 1-0 Senegal

90+2. Carlos Queiroz makes his last change.

Mainly to run the clock down now at this stage as Trezeguet comes off.

Senegal desperately looking for a goal.

    90. We are going to have four additional minutes here.

  • Egypt 1-0 Senegal

    89. Senegal bring on Papa Gueye.

Last chance saloon now for the visitors.

That was a chance as the ball drops to Dieng.

He tries to shoot but the block means the ball trickles through to the keeper.

  • Egypt 1-0 Senegal – Marmoush chance!

    87. Great play by the substitute in the Senegal box.

He manages to fashion half a yard of space and gets a shot away quickly.

It almost catches Mendy out as it nestles in the side-netting.

  • Egypt 1-0 Senegal

    85. Egypt win a corner.

The ball is whipped in and doesn’t beat the first man and is cleared.

Koulibaly is getting feisty with a few Egypt players now.

  • Egypt 1-0 Senegal

    83. Aliou Cisse barks his orders to his team from the touchline.

They do not have long now to turn this game around.

An equaliser this late on would seem like a win to the visitors.

  • Egypt 1-0 Senegal

    81. Trezeguet is penalised for a foul on Koulibaly.

The Egyptian wins the header but seems to land on the defenders foot as he lands.

Obviously the defender makes it look like he stood in a bear trap.

  • Egypt 1-0 Senegal

    79. Great free kick by Senegal.

Mane completely runs over the ball and continues his run down the wing.

As the ball is played into the box and half-cleared the ball runs wide of the goal.

Mane continues his run and almost converts the loose ball.

  • Egypt 1-0 Senegal

    77. Egypt have a free kick and look to drift it into the back post.

The header drops harmlessly before Trezeguet tries a shot.

It is blocked by a number of Senegal players before the ball is cleared.

  • Egypt 1-0 Senegal

    75. Mane clips the free kick in looking to find a Senegal head.

Egypt again show how the aerial balls suit their game defensively.

Still no way through for the visitors.

  • Egypt 1-0 Senegal

    73. Sarr is running at Egypt in full-flow as he cuts in from out wide.

A number of players look to challenge him and the Senegal player goes down.

The referee awards Senegal a free kick on the edge of the box.

  • Egypt 1-0 Senegal

    71. The AFCON champions seem unable to breach the Egypt defence.

They are throwing everything at their hosts but still cannot find the goal they crave.

    Mohamed comes off for Marmoush.

  • Egypt 1-0 Senegal

    68. As the corner comes in for Egypt, the ball is partially cleared.

Fathi tries an outlandish bicycle kick which is blocked by the defender.

Had he not got that block in, that looked to be heading in.

  • Egypt 1-0 Senegal

    67. Senegal are still trying to press the hosts.

Egypt seem happy to control possession.

The Pharaohs seems content with their one-goal lead.

  • Egypt 1-0 Senegal – Mane chance!

    64. The ball is crossed to the back post where Mane wins the header.

His header is on its way to goal before El-Shenawy dives and gets a hand to the ball.

The defender behind him was ready to clear if the keeper could not get to it.

  • Egypt 1-0 Senegal

    62. Bamba Dieng comes on for Senegal.

    Diedhiou makes way for him.

Play stops as a clash of heads requires treatment for both.

  • Egypt 1-0 Senegal

    60. The Pharaohs are quite happy to pass the ball around and frustrate their opponents.

Senegal seem to be treating this like a one-off game.

They do not want to leave here with a defeat.

  • Egypt 1-0 Senegal

    58. Senegal are looking a much better team in this second half.

There seems to be more purpose to their attacking.

That being said, Egypt are still keeping them out.

  • Egypt 1-0 Senegal

    56. Brilliant play by Sadio Mane.

Out on the touchline with two players facing him, the Liverpool winger scoops the ball in the middle of the pair and skips passed them.

As he gets into the Egypt box he looks to find Sarr on the back post.

    The ball is headed away.

  • Egypt 1-0 Senegal

    54. Senegal seem to be camped inside the Egypt half currently.

Sarr’s cross is partially blocked and runs through to the keeper.

As Egypt counter Trezeguet is fouled out wide.

  • Egypt 1-0 Senegal

    52. As the corner is swung into the box El-Shenawy comes for the cross and punches clear.

He has done that a lot in this game and relieved a lot of pressure on his team.

    All Senegal at the moment.

  • Egypt 1-0 Senegal

    50. The Lions of Teranga may rue some of these missed chances.

That was a difficult one for Mane as he was literally under the crossbar as he tried to turn and shoot.

Mane goes running into the box but why he looks to pass instead of pulling the trigger only the player will know.

  • Egypt 1-0 Senegal

    48. Two half chances there for Senegal.

Firstly as the ball is hooked into the box a returning Mane swivels on the ball but cannot get a good connection on it so close to goal.

Then as the ball is returned into the box from out wide, the header is inches away from the post.

The replay shows it seems the Egypt defender nearly put it into his own net there.

  • Egypt 1-0 Senegal

    46. Both sides look intent on attacking in the early stages of the second half.

For Senegal they need to work harder in the final third.

As obvious as it sounds they need to get Mane on the ball more.
