FABIAN SCHAR has declared his intention to sign a new deal with Newcastle – insisting he has been inspired by Eddie Howe’s long-lasting admiration.

The centre-back will be out of contract this summer, but said he is eager to extend his stay on Tyneside.
A £3million buy from Deportivo La Coruna in 2019, 30-year-old Schar has since made 91 senior appearances.
He scored his first goal of the season in Saturday’s 2-1 win over Brighton after previously struggling under Steve Bruce’s management.

Schar told Swiss broadcaster SRF: “Everyone at the club knows how good I feel playing for this team under the current manager.
“I can well imagine myself staying at Newcastle beyond this summer.
“This wasn’t always the case. Things didn’t always go so well for me under the club’s previous ownership.
“The next few weeks will determine how things turn out for me – but Newcastle are my first choice for sure.

“Eddie Howe gave me an incredibly good feeling from the first day he arrived.
“We were in contact previously, when he was still managing another club.
“I was personally very happy about the change of manager. My self-confidence has grown from being able to play all the time.
“I expected the club would sign another centre-back in January. But I knew this coach would give me good chances of game time if I continued to perform.
“That’s how it has turned out. I play alongside Dan Burn, and it’s working very well.
“The change of club owners went down very well with the fans, even though not much has changed for the players.
