Man Utd’s Premier League trip to Liverpool postponed due to fixture pile-up after Reds’ win over Norwich in FA Cup

THIS month’s eagerly-anticipated Prem clash between Liverpool and Manchester United has been postponed due to the Reds’ midweek progression in the FA Cup.

The match was scheduled for March 20 but a 2-1 fifth-round win over Norwich means the Merseysiders will now have cup commitments that weekend. United were knocked out by Middlesbrough last month.

The cancellation of the Sunday televised blockbuster will be disappointing to both sets of fans and many naturals.

Liverpool against Manchester United is one of the biggest clashes of any season with the pair amassing 39 titles between them.

The Reds’ 5-0 win at Old Trafford in October played a big part in the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjar the following month.

Newly-crowned Carabao Cup winners Liverpool are in contention to win an historic Quadruple this season, while United’s only chance of silverware seems to be in the Champions League.

The postponement means United’s last match of three this month will be at home to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League on March 16. The tie is 1-1 after the first leg.

Liverpool will have five matches to play in March, including a March 8 Champions League visit from Inter Milan. Liverpool won 2-0 at the San Siro last month.

The postponement also means second-placed Liverpool will be left with another game in hand on Prem leaders Manchester City.

Pep Guardiola’s City currently top the table by six points having played a game more than Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Liverpool won the first domestic trophy – the Carabao Cup – of the season on Sunday with penalty-shoot out win over Chelsea.
