Four arrested after FLARE thrown onto pitch during West Ham v Kidderminster Harriers FA Cup match

FOUR men have been arrested after a flare was thrown onto the pitch during the West Ham v Kidderminster Harriers FA Cup match on Saturday.

The men – aged in their 20s and 30s and from Birmingham, Hampshire and Kidderminster – were arrested on suspicion of possessing and setting off a flare during the game at Aggborough.

Speaking after West Ham’s nail-biting 2-1 win in extra-time, West Murcia Police Supt Gareth Morgan said a small number of home fans had caused trouble.

“Thanks to the club’s stewards we were able to detain the four men before anyone was injured by their careless actions,” he said.

The officer thanked the majority of fans who behaved respectfully towards each other.

He added: “We worked closely with the club in the build-up to the game, and increased our presence around the town to ensure fans and the public were kept safe during this exciting and historic match.

“I would like to thank everyone involved for their co-operation.”

The Hammers were two minutes away from becoming the first team to be knocked out of the FA Cup by a sixth-tier opposition in 151 years.

Alex Penny gave the National League North side the lead against the Premier League team after just 19 minutes.

And they held onto it all the way until – despite the cheating attempts of Yarmolenko – until the 91st-minute.

Declan Rice brought the team back from the brink with a stunning stoppage time equaliser while Jarrod Bowen tapped home a goal in the 121st minute – sealing West Ham’s spot in the FA Cup’s fifth round.

Meanwhile, West Ham star Andriy Yarmolenko was slammed after his ‘pathetic’ dive against Kidderminster.

Yarmolenko was guilty of one of the worst dives of the campaign as West Ham struggled to find an equaliser before half time.

As the whistle for the break approached, the Ukrainian star was played through on goal but threw himself to the floor without being touched rather than try to go for goal.

BBC co-commentator Dion Dublin was the first to slam the Hammers attacker’s attempts to con the ref.

He said: “That’s embarrassing, that is totally embarrassing from Yarmolenko.

“No contact whatsoever. What are you doing?

“I’d be embarrassed if I watched my doing doing that… embarrassed.”

Plenty of others joined in on Twitter, labelling it ‘pathetic’ and Yarmolenko a ‘cheat’ for his antics.

One tweeted: “FFS Yarmolenko that’s the worst dive I’ve ever seen.”

Another wrote: “Andriy Yarmolenko with an early contender for the 2022 Fallon D’Floor.”
