IAN WRIGHT has been forced to leave ITV’s live FA Cup coverage due to a family bereavement.
The Arsenal legend was in attendance as a pundit for the FA Cup second round clash between Rochdale and Plymouth on Saturday afternoon.
And he was said to be in buoyant mood not only on camera but also with members of the crowd as he interacted with them ahead of the 12:15pm kick-off.
But he then had to leave the match at half-time after being told that a member of his family had passed away.
Presenter Mark Pougatch said: “Ian, I’m afraid is not [with us at half-time]. A family bereavement, so he has gone to where he is most needed – with his family.”
Less than one hour before he heard the devastating news, Wright posted a picture of himself at the match on Twitter.
He had met a fan who was also named Ian Wright, so he captioned the photo: “Just met another Ian Wright.”
Tributes poured in for the Gunners legend after his family loss was confirmed on ITV’s coverage.
One fan said: “Watching ITV FA Cup. Sorry to hear your news. Stay strong.”
While another added: “Hi Ian, I’ve just heard that you had bad news so you had to leave Rochdale vs Plymouth match.
“I’m sending you massive hugs and prayers.”
And another concerned viewer said: “Hope everything is alright with Ian Wright.”
Just one hour before kick-off Wright could be seen with various Rochdale and Plymouth supporters.
One Rochdale fan shared a picture with Wright and said: “Come on Rochdale. Two Ians… Just little ole me… AND.. Ian Wright Wright Wright…!!!
“What a guy spending time posing for pictures with the fans.”
Plymouth went on to beat Rochdale 2-1 to advance through to the third round of the FA Cup.
