RALF RANGNICK’S tactics at Man Utd will see an aggressive high-energy press, counter-attacking football and Chelsea-flop Timo Werner may be just the man he is looking for.
The big-money signing of Romelu Lukaku this summer has limited Werner’s game time considerably, meaning the German could be open to a move.
Rangnick will be looking to overhaul the tactics at United and mould them in his own vision of how a club should play.
He has put his own stamp on all the clubs he has managed and there are some common themes.
One thing you will not see is the manager try to fit round pieces into square holes.
He knows what he wants to achieve but needs the right players to do it.
Werner, having spent time with him at Leipzig, gives him the option of playing counter-attacking football and punishing teams who thought they were in control of the game.
Having scored 78 goals in his four-year spell at Leipzig, he became of interest to some of the biggest clubs in Europe.
Rangnick told German tabloid, Bild, back in 2020: “From a purely hypothetical point of view, I believe he would be better off with a club that aren’t necessarily defined by possession football.”
“His most important weapons are his movement in counter-attacks and great finishing”.
There are no room for passengers in a Ralf Rangnick team, utilising a high-press and inverted wingers, his teams like to pressure their opponents into errors.
Not even yet able to sit on the touchline and lead his team, talk is of how he has already drawn up a list of players who will allow him to achieve his masterplan.

He has already been warned by Man Utd legends of the uphill task he faces.
According to sources in Germany, Rangnick is interested in bringing in three players to United who he has had dealings with in the past.
Christopher Nkunku is another player being linked to the ‘Ralf-olution’ along with everybody’s favourite target, Erling Haaland.
Interest in Haaland this summer will no doubt spark a bidding war amongst Europe’s elite, potentially leading to the highest bidder acquiring his services.
Werner looks a much more ‘gettable’ option due to the player’s situation, lack of game time and personal relationship with Rangnick.
It certainly poses the potential that the young German forward could be the first through the Old Trafford door come January.
