ALAN SHEARER raged at Jonjo Shelvey as the midfielder was sent off in Newcastle’s poor home defeat by Tottenham.
The substitute was given his marching orders after picking up a second yellow for scything down Sergio Reguilon as he raced towards goal.
His first booking came only minutes earlier as he swiped at Son Heung-min after replacing Sean Longstaff on the hour mark.
Toon legend Shearer could not believe what he was seeing as Shelvey’s red compounded a 3-2 loss on Tyneside.
He wrote on Twitter: “Stupid stupid stupid red card.”
It had all started so well at St James’ Park in the first match under mega-rich Saudi owners.
Callum Wilson gave the hosts the lead when he headed home inside two minutes.
But the jubilation was short-lived as Tanguy Ndombele fired home a rocket to equalise for the visitors.
And before the first-half was over Harry Kane and strike partner Son would put Spurs out of sight.
A late Eric Dier own-goal flattered Newcastle who were way off the pace in boss Steve Bruce’s 1000th match as a manager.
Events on the pitch were overshadowed by a medical emergency in the stands as a Newcastle fan suffered a suspected heart attack.
Players reacted quickly to alert ref Andre Marriner, who halted the game so medics with defibrillators could attend to the supporter.
Newcastle later confirmed the fan is “stable and responsive” in hospital.
