RALF RANGNICK could be hired by the new owners of Newcastle – but WILL NOT replace manager Steve Bruce, according to reports.
The Magpies were taken over by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund earlier this week in a £300million deal which saw Mike Ashley’s 14-year reign come to an end.
And the change of ownership has brought about even more pressure on manager Bruce who is yet to win a Premier League game so far this season.
Rangnick is one name who has been reported, a man who has previously been linked with the role of football director at Manchester United.
But Chronicle Live are now reporting that if Rangnick is to join Newcastle then it would be as a sporting director.
Asked about the sporting director position earlier this week, Amanda Staveley, who now owns 10 per cent of the club, said: “We have thought about sporting directors and directors of football but we need to sit down with our board and look at what we have today.
“You can bring in the best sporting director in the world but you’ve got no infrastructure.
“Your medical staff, your training facilities, they need really heavy investment and that’s what we need to know at every single level.
“We need to attract people to work with us as well who share our dream and will do that.”
Rangnick managed Hoffenheim between 2006 and 2011 before moving on to Schalke and then RB Leipzig.
He is currently holds the role as Head of Sports and Development at Lokomotiv Moscow.

Meanwhile, Bruce is odds-on to be the next Premier League manager to be sacked.
Belgium boss Roberto Martinez is currently the favourite to succeed the 60-year-old as boss of the Tyneside club.
Other names in the frame include Antonio Conte, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, Eddie Howe, Brendan Rodgers and Graham Potter.
