What a different a week makes.

This time last Sunday, supporters of Spurs were crestfallen after defeat at Arsenal, but fast forward seven days and Tottenham are scoring goals, winning games and above their North London rivals in the table again.

It’s been an exciting, enthralling afternoon in the Premier League, and it’s not done yet so hop over to Anfield for our live coverage of Liverpool against Manchester City.

    Thanks for following, and goodbye.

  • SMITH SALUTES SON

In his post-match press conference, Aston Villa boss Dean Smith has praised Tottenham’s Son Heung-min for the performance that did for his side.

I felt we started the second half well, but sometimes you have to tip your hat to the the outstanding player on the pitch and that was Son Heung-min. I thought the only difference between the two teams today was Son.

  • KANE PAIN CONTINUES

It was a less fruitful afternoon for Son’s partner in crime, Harry Kane.

Admittedly, the striker was much more involved than previous weeks, and came close to ending his scoring drought with a couple of fine efforts.

However, it’s now six matches in the Premier League without a goal, his worst run in six years.

  • NICE ONE, SON

Son Heung-min produced a brilliant second half showing to help Spurs to all three points, potentially kickstarting their season.

Two assists for the South Korean means he has now contributed six goals and six assists in his last 12 Premier League appearances at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

  • TOTTENHAM HOJBJERG

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg led by example in the Tottenham midfield today, forming a solid partnership with Oliver Skipp and getting his side on their way with a classy opening goal.

  • FULL TIME STATS

Shot shy Spurs? Not on the evidence of this afternoon’s performance. Tottenham racked up 17 attempts mainly thanks to an electrifying second half performance from Son Heung-min and co.

  • FULL TIME RESULTS

Elsewhere in the Premier League this afternoon, Crystal Palace fought back from 2-0 down to draw with Leicester while Brentford’s excellent start to life in the top-flight continued with a dramatic late, late, late win at West Ham.

    • Crystal Palace 2-2 Leicester
    • Spurs 2-1 Aston Villa
    • West Ham 1-2 Brentford
  • FT: SPURS 2-1 ASTON VILLA

A huge win for Tottenham and Nuno Espirito Santo, and three points well deserved. The hosts impressed in the second half with Son Heung-min the star of the show. Having laid on the first for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, the South Korean was also the driving force behind the winner, eventually credited as a Matt Targett own-goal. The decisive moment came minutes after Villa had forced themselves level through Ollie Watkins’ first of the campaign.

  • PEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP!
    THE FINAL WHISTLE IS BLOWN!

  • SPURS 2-1 ASTON VILLA

90+3. Son has dazzled in this second half, and still has enough in the tank to tie Douglas Luiz up in knots.

The Spurs star takes the ball towards the corner flag, and then fools the Villa midfielder into conceding a free-kick.

The South Korean deserves to be on the winning side today.

  • SPURS 2-1 ASTON VILLA

    90. There will be five minutes of stoppage time to be added on.

    Still time for a twist?

  • SPURS 2-1 ASTON VILLA

    89. One change apiece as the game heads towards the 90th minute.

Bryan Gil replaces Lucas Moura for Spurs while Aston Villa’s Cameron Archers comes on for Danny Ings.

  • SPURS 2-1 ASTON VILLA

    87. Another chance for Spurs, another one passed up to seal the points.

A long ball over the top puts Kane one-on-one with Martinez, but a sloppy first touch makes the subsequent shot a tricky one and the Villa goalkeeper gets out quickly to block.

Surely the home side won’t come to rue these chances?

  • SPURS 2-1 ASTON VILLA

    86. That should have been it! And what a goal it would have been!

Son does brilliantly to bring the ball forward again, and then slips in Kane with a lovely through ball.

The striker could take on the shot from a difficult angle, but instead executes a perfect back-heel to put Lo Celso in on goal.

It’s a glorious change for the substitute, who falters by striking straight at Martinez.

  • SPURS 2-1 ASTON VILLA

    85. Five minutes to go and there certainly feels as if there’s another goal in this, one end or the other.

  • SPURS 2-1 ASTON VILLA

    82. Lo Celso goes wide with a curler, and Spurs are fancying their chances of putting this game to bed.

Even Kane is getting closer to a goal, having just struck a thunderbolt wide a moment ago.

  • SPURS 2-1 ASTON VILLA

    81. Aston Villa make their second change, and it’s another attacking option in Bertrand Traore.

The wide man comes on for defender Kortney Hause.

  • SPURS 2-1 ASTON VILLA

    79. The Premier League have now ruled that Tottenham’s second will instead go down as a Matt Targett own-goal.

It seems harsh on Lucas Moura, who definitely looked to have got a touch on the ball as the players combined. He remains without a goal since February.

  • SPURS 2-1 ASTON VILLA

    77. Ings twists and turns inside the penalty area, eventually getting a shot away but with one that’s well held by Lloris in the Spurs goal.

  • SPURS 2-1 ASTON VILLA

    76. Now Spurs opt to make their change with Lo Celso on for Ndombele.

The departing Frenchman has really impressed in spells this afternoon.

  • SPURS 2-1 ASTON VILLA

    74. Ings tries to work Watkins in behind for Tottenham defence again, but this time an offside flag is raised against the former Brentford man.

  • SPURS 2-1 ASTON VILLA

    73. Spurs looks as though they’re planning a change of their own after that goal, and it looks as though we may soon see Giovani Lo Celso.

  • SPURS 2-1 ASTON VILLA

    71. Aston Villa weren’t level for long!

Tottenham regain the lead in exhilarating fashion with Son Heung-min again their creator supreme.

The South Korean breaks down the left at pace, and this time receives the right pass. He brings it under his spell wonderfully as he makes his way into the area, looks up, and then picks out Lucas Moura.

The cross is perfect, low and beyond Emiliano Martinez, and the Brazilian couldn’t miss from close range despite the sliding presence of Matt Targett.

For the first time this season, Spurs have two in a Premier League game.

  • GOOOOOOAAAAAAAAALLLLLL!!
LUCAS MOURA RESTORES THE HOME SIDE’S LEAD!!

  • SPURS 1-1 ASTON VILLA

    69. Despite the equaliser, Dean Smith persists with the change and introduces Buendia for Ramsey.
