  • LIVERPOOL 0-0 CITY

34, De Bruyne again… and he blazes over.

A brilliant cross to the far post from Foden finds him in all kinds of space.

De Bruyne was closing in behind Robertson completely unmarked to surely head City in the lead, but it balloons off his head and into the stands.

    City should be ahead.

32, Foden goes down, and can’t believe he hasn’t got a penalty there.

He was brought down by Milner right on the edge of the area but no foul given.

Looks to me like Liverpool got away with one there.

At very least it was a free-kick on the edge of the box.

  • LIVERPOOL 0-0 CITY

31, Oh wow. Dias absolutely fired in a backpass to Ederson and the man City goalkeeper did very well to stop it from going in.

    Nervy stuff.

  • LIVERPOOL 0-0 CITY

28, Robertson tries to get the crowd going and inject some energy with some high-impact tackles.

The crowd respond to the Reds left-back.

Liverpool need a lift and Robertson might have just provided it.

  • LIVERPOOL 0-0 CITY

26, First booking of the game as Dias makes sure Jota is not getting past him.

Meanwhile, here’s the Bernardo run from earlier. Magical.

  • LIVERPOOL 0-0 CITY

25, De Bruyne…. flashes it across the face of goal.

Another chance for City, he made a lovely run between Matip and Van Dijk and Cancelo provided the pass.

But De Bruyne’s left-foot strike is well wide in the end.

  • LIVERPOOL 0-0 CITY

23, Midway through the first half and City will be very happy with how things have gone.

Liverpool just haven’t got going so far and the crowd have been pretty quiet.

  • LIVERPOOL 0-0 CITY

21, CHANCE for City, but Alisson is off his line to deny Foden.

That was outstanding from Bernardo to shrug off Henderson, Robertson, Fabinho and then skip past Van Dijk before sliding in Foden.

What a run from Silva, and a big save from Alisson at the end of that move.

Warning sign for Liverpool and their crowd are trying to wake them up.

  • LIVERPOOL 0-0 CITY

18, Error from Alisson as his poor clearance goes straight to Bernardo Silva.

He fed the ball into Jesus, but Matip was back to block and bail his goalkeeper out.

Alisson had a shocker here in February against Man City, he’ll want to settle the nerves and avoid a repeat here.

  • LIVERPOOL 0-0 CITY

16, Better from City, and they have an overlap down the left with Foden and Bernardo.

Bernardo stood it up to the far post but Robertson did very well to deal with it as Jesus closed in behind him.

  • LIVERPOOL 0-0 CITY

14, Good possession from City to try and draw some of the sting out of Liverpool and quieten the crowd.

They haven’t turned it into anything threatening yet. Yet being the key word.

  • LIVERPOOL 0-0 CITY

11, Both defences pushing very high, Liverpool maybe comforted in the fact that Sterling is on the bench and City don’t have the pace to get in behind that they might have.

Still goalless, but riveting stuff. Like a couple of heavyweights sparring the early rounds.

  • LIVERPOOL 0-0 CITY

7, Milner’s corner from the right looked to be swinging onto the head of Matip.

The Kop held it’s breath, but it was just out of reach of the tall centre-back.

Fast start from Liverpool as expected. I can’t think of any other ground in the world that is so different with fans in it compared to when empty.

  • LIVERPOOL 0-0 CITY

5, City looking to get on the ball and slow it down whenever possible.

Liverpool are 100mph, trying to win the ball up field and get at City quickly.

    Fascinating tactical battle.

  • LIVERPOOL 0-0 CITY

3, Grealish is in the middle of the front 3 for City in a false-nine position.

Foden has lined up out on the left against Milner and Jesus on the right.

    Interesting.

  • LIVERPOOL 0-0 CITY

1, An early sign from Liverpool of how they’ll look to get at City today with a long, raking diagonal pass in behind looking for Mane.

Ederson is off his line quickly, though, to deal with it.

  • PEEEEEEEEEPPPP

And we’re underway. Liverpool kick us off.

  • FINAL COUNTDOWN

You’ll Never Walk Alone bellows around Anfield.

Looks like Man City have won the toss and switched ends, so Liverpool will be attacking the Kop in the first half.

There will be a tribute for the late great Roger Hunt, who died this week.

  • PEP TALKING TO SKY SPORTS

“We have to just try and play football. We can’t come here just to defend. I know we’re going to suffer, like we did at Chelsea and in Paris as well.”

  • KLOPP TALKING TO SKY SPORTS

“It’s just one of these games where you have to be really spot on and at your best because of your opponent.

“Apart from last year’s game here behind closed doors when we made a lot of mistakes it’s pretty much always been tight and exciting.”

  • ONE ON ONE

James Milner will start at right-back today against his former club in the absence of Alexander-Arnold.

He’ll be up against Jack Grealish down that flank.

A tough afternoon in store for Milner you feel, and that little battle could be critical in deciding the outcome of this match.

  • KLOPP ON COVID

Jurgen Klopp made his feelings known on players not being vaccinated against Covid-19.

It’s a problem among Premier League clubs at the moment, and the Liverpool boss can’t understand it.

The Liverpool boss said: “If I say I am vaccinated, other people say: ‘How can you tell me I should be vaccinated?’ It is a little bit like drink-driving.

“We all probably were in a situation where we had a beer or two and thought we still could drive, but [because of] the law, we are not allowed to drive, so we don’t drive.

“But this law is not there for protecting me when I drink two beers and want to drive, it’s for protecting all the other people because I’m drunk, and we accept that as a law.”

  • FULL-TIME

All three 2pm games have just finished, and here are the final scores:

    • Crystal Palace 2-2 Leicester
    • Tottenham 2-1 Aston Villa
    • West Ham 1-2 Brentford

A dramatic late winner for Brentford there in east London.

Just one game left this weekend now, the decks are cleared…

  • TABLE

Both sides know they can go top today with what would be a statement victory.

They’d be top for at least a fortnight too with the international break coming up.

Here’s how it looks at the moment.
