Man Utd boss Solskjaer will be very disappointed after his side failed to keep a clean sheet at home for a ninth Premier League game in a row.

He will also be frustrated about Utd not taking opportunity to go top of the league with a win against an injury-hit Everton, who were without captain Seamus Coleman and strikers Richarlison and Calvert-Lewin.

Toffees boss Rafa Benitez will be delighted with his team’s gritty performance after they showed real character to take the game to Man Utd today, despite their injury problems.

Every player in an Everton shirt put in a real shift for their side and they currently sit in fourth place in the Prem table as a reward for their efforts.

Man Utd know that a win today would have put them in a much stronger position ahead of their upcoming games against Leicester, Liverpool, Spurs and Man City.

Solskjaer will know that a bad run in the coming month could put him under real pressure as Utd boss, meanwhile Benitez looks to be slowly winning over his doubters in the Everton fanbase.

Both sides will hope that Liverpool and Man City’s huge clash tomorrow also ends in a draw to keep them in amongst contention for top four places.

  • FULL-TIME: MAN UTD 1-1 EVERTON

Despite getting a very creditable point against a tough opposition away from home, Andros Townsend feels his side could have gone on to get all three points on another day.

“Going into the game with the injuries that we had, we probably would have accepted a point.

“But when you go to Old Trafford and create the chances we had, we had the chance that was offside in the last few minutes, yes we’re delighted, but on another day it could have been three points.”

He also claims his SIIIIIIUUUUUUU celebration was a nod of respect to Ronaldo, who stormed straight down the tunnel in frustration after the full-time whistle.

“This guy is my idol. I grew up watching Cristiano Ronaldo, I spent hours on the training pitch trying to execute his techniques.

“Maybe should have spent longer on the celebration because it wasn’t great!

“It was a bit of respect to Cristiano and it’s an honour to be on the same field as him.”

Anthony Martial today scored his first goal in seven appearances this season and it will surely give the Frenchman a much-needed confidence boost.

After struggling for form of late and coming under criticism for his body language and work rate, it looked like Martial’s days at Old Trafford were numbered.

But Solskjaer showed his faith in the 25-year-old by giving him a starting place ahead of Jadon Sancho and Paul Pogba and he repaid his manager with a great goal just before half-time.

  • STATS DON’T LIE

    FULL-TIME: MAN UTD 1-1 EVERTON

The stats paint an accurate picture of today’s game, with Everton sitting deep and allowing Man Utd to get on the ball and try to break them down with 71.5% of the possession.

Everton defended superbly, making 20 tackles and 29 successful clearances and offering a real threat on the break with the pace and directness of Demarai Gray and Andros Townsend.

Despite having far less possession than the home side, Everton had 12 shots, only one less than Utd’s 13.

They had less of the ball, but whenever they did get it they showed a real intent to get forward and attack the goal.

The away side also defended superbly from set-pieces, with Utd unable to capitalise from ten corners.

Everton only had two offsides, with one of them being Yerry Mina’s disallowed goal.

  • CHEEKY BOY

    FULL-TIME: MAN UTD 1-1 EVERTON

A very cheeky goal celebration from Andros Townsend, who drops a SSSSIIIIIUUUUUUUUUUU in front of the Everton fans at Old Trafford.

The 30-year-old has had a phenomenal start to the season at Everton and seems to be finding his best form under Rafa Benitez, having previously worked with him at Newcastle.

After joining on a free transfer from Crystal Palace, Townsend is surely one of the best signings this summer after having such a huge impact on the team in such a short space of time.

  • BAD DAY AT THE OFFICE

FULL TIME: MAN UTD 1-1 EVERTON

Groans from the home fans at full-time after another disappointing performance from their team at Old Trafford.

Man Utd managed only one win in their four games in a row at Old Trafford and struggling to really hit their stride again today.

Everton were fantastic and showed real character, determination and grit to keep Utd’s attacking superstars quiet and cause their defence real problems.

Bruno Fernandes didn’t have a particularly good game today in midfield and was dealt with superbly by Allan and Doucoure.

After his missed penalty against Aston Villa last week and difficult game against Villarreal on Wednesday, Fernandes would have wanted to bounce back today with a big performance, bit it wasn’t to be.

  • THAT DON’T IMPRESS ME MUCH

    FULL-TIME: MAN UTD 1-1 EVERTON

Man Utd fail to keep a clean sheet at Old Trafford once again after Andros Townsend found an equaliser in the 65th minute.

The away side thought they’d snatched a famous victory at Old Trafford through Yerry Mina, only for it to be ruled out for offside by VAR.

The Red Devils threw everything they had at Everton at the end, but ultimately it wasn’t enough and they’ll be frustrated with a draw against a depleted Everton side.

Ronaldo stormed off into the tunnel at full-time, looking absolutely furious, meanwhile Everton celebrated the point like it was a victory.

Rafa Benitez will certainly be the happier of the two managers after his side’s superb defensive performance and their potent counter-attacking threat through the brilliant Demarai Gray and Andros Townsend.

Man Utd looked like they just couldn’t quite find their top gear today and will be disappointed to have missed an opportunity to go top of the league.

  • MAN UTD 1-1 EVERTON

82 – CLOSE! More good play from Sancho who skins Godfrey and finds Pogba, who tries to curl one in the top corner but it doesn’t bend quite enough and goes wide.

A good effort from the Frenchman.

  • MAN UTD 1-1 EVERTON

81 – The home fans are getting a little bit frustrated with their team now, who aren’t offering quite as much going forward as they might like.

There’s a lot of firepower in the Utd front line, but Everton have dealt with them superbly.

  • MAN UTD 1-1 EVERTON

79 – Good move from Man Utd as Sancho runs at the Everton defence and sends Fernandes through, who tries to cut it back to Ronaldo.

It goes past him and Wan-Bissaka tries to cross it in for Fernandes, who heads it wide. He took a bang on the head as well there, but looks okay.

  • MAN UTD 1-1 EVERTON

78 – Greenwood and Ronaldo combine nicely and Ronaldo makes an excellent run into the box.

Greenwood can’t quite find him and the referee’s assistant flags for offside anyway.

It’s not quite happening for Utd at the moment.

  • MAN UTD 1-1 EVERTON

76 – YELLOW CARD! Doucoure is booked for a foul on Fernandes. It’s a dangerous one as he catches the Portuguese playmakers leg in a scissor movement.

Fernandes looks to be okay and Utd go again.

  • MAN UTD 1-1 EVERTON

75 – CLOSE! Sancho does really well on the left wing and sends Ronaldo through on goal but the angle is very narrow.

He has a shot with his left foot and hits it with some power but it goes wide.

It gives the home fans a bit of a boost, who had started to sound a little nervous after Everton’s good spell in the last few minutes.

  • MAN UTD 1-1 EVERTON

74 – Gray breaks at pace into the Man Utd box but Lindelof does really well to ferry him out for a goal kick.

Gray looks dangerous every time he gets on the ball and has caused Man Utd no end of problems today.
