And in his latest upload, the Cork native has shared a photo from his youth of him smiling with a man on a night out.

With the caption Keano wrote: “Hard to believe, 10 pints later I was getting kicked out by that bouncer.”

Keane’s Sky Sports colleague and former Manchester City star Micah Richards joked in the replies: “Some say you couldn’t drink.”

Ireland icon Keane revealed in a recent interview with Gary Neville that he turned sober after injuring his cruciate ligament during his career.

He said: “I don’t know… it was around the time I done my cruciate. My cruciate definitely triggered something I had where I had where I went… Obviously I had missed the game, I was out for a year. I wanna go back.

“It cost me a lot of games. I finished at 34… and the role I was playing sitting midfielder, I really should have played until I was 37 or 38.

“The sitting midfielder’s, I think is the easiest job on the pitch.

“I think I’m good fun now when I go out sober. No, I do… I do! I think I have as good craic now as much as I did.

“Is that not bad? What do you want me to do? Take my T-shirt off and swing it over my head?

“When I used to go out people used to say ‘oh he’s lunatic when he’s drinking. He’s a bit of a time bomb be careful.’

“And then I stopped drinking ‘oh he’s a loner he doesn’t want to mix with anybody.”

“What do you want me to do like when I go out I’m mad. If I… I’m a loner. You can’t win!”

“Nobody needed to invite me for a night out or a drink. I used to love it, to me that was part of the package.

“I had that kind of mentality from Ireland. I played in the League of Ireland and it was ‘win or lose you hit the booze’. All that stupid carry on.

“I was a bit younger and I got away with it. But when I did my cruciate, then I thought (of quitting drinking)… Obviously I played in the middle of the park. If you remember towards the end of my career I was kind of gaunt looking. I was picking up more injuries, I was cold all the time.

“That was my way of relaxing. People took up golf, snooker. Mine was going out enjoying myself… I thought I had to go out and drink as much alcohol as I possibly could.”
