JOHN McGINN was subbed in Aston Villa’s clash with Everton amid concern from fans he was “concussed”.
The Scotland international appeared to take a knock to the face midway through the first-half as Villa welcomed Everton to Villa Park.
McGinn played on before being replaced by Zimbabwe’s Marvelous Nakamba on 39 minutes with the score at 0-0.
Dean Smith later confirmed that McGinn felt ‘dizzy’ after two incidents where he was hit in the head.
Smith told Sky Sports: “He is OK, I think it was the early corner where Tyrone [Mings] got the header.
“He got a whack on the head, I think he clashed heads with [Michael] Keane and he just felt a bit groggy. He said to me before the first break ‘If I feel any more dizzy I am going to have to give you a shout’.
“He got another whack, he felt he was fine to carry on. After that he made another run after about 25 minutes, there was a break in play, he came over, that’s when he alerted me to it and I told the doctor, that’s why we got it done then.
“You are guided by the player, he didn’t express concussion symptoms as soon as he had done it. Just a whack on the head, there was another one later on that he certainly did tell us.”

However, fans took to social media to question whether the 26-year-old should have been taken off sooner, with some claiming he was “concussed”.
User ‘Dion_Leadbetter’ wrote on Twitter: “Not sure how it’s taken Villa so long to take John McGinn off there, obviously not there with the concussion.”
‘RJAK67’ added: “John McGinn has genuinely just played 30 odd minutes of football concussed.”
And ‘Daniel_Baines04’ added: “Why on earth was John McGinn allowed to continue? He should’ve been taken off immediately.”
Fans from both sides wished McGinn well after he started brightly, going close with a curling strike from 25 yards out.
VILLA WIN
Everton fan ‘TonyHibberto’ added: “Hope John McGinn is ok, glad he could go off.”
User ‘17menzies17’ wrote on Twitter: “The Premier League needs to look into John McGinn injury as he just played 30 minutes of the match concussed.”
Villa went on to beat Everton 3-0, Matty Cash opening the scoring before a Lucas Digne own goal and Leon Bailey’s first goal for the club.
