FORMER Manchester United star Anderson has reportedly been charged with alleged involvement in a £4.7million cryptocurrency fraud ring.
Brazilian newspaper Globo has named the four-time Premier League winner, 33, as one of eight people being investigated by a state prosecutor for aggravated theft, fraud and money laundering.
It’s alleged the group used cryptocurrency to launder cash illegally redirected from the stock exchange.
The probe has subsequently been dubbed ‘Operation Cryptoshow’.
But Anderson has denied the allegations and aims to clear his name.
Anderson’s lawyer Julio Cezar Coitinho Junior told Globo: “We have not been summoned. It is hard to talk right now.
“There is an investigation under way. Anderson has said he is aware.
“But Anderson is going to prove he was a victim, not an accomplice. That is his position.”
Anderson spent nearly eight years at Manchester United between 2007 and 2015.
Sir Alex Ferguson splashed out £25m to sign the former midfielder from Porto.
And Anderson became a fan favourite as he scored nine goals in 181 games.
As well as his four Premier League titles, Anderson also won the 2008 Champions League during his time at Old Trafford.
The former Fiorentina man also played eight times for Brazil, helping them win the 2007 Copa America trophy.
