Man Utd target Pau Torres breaks silence over transfer future as Villarreal star says he’s ‘totally calm’ over interest

The Villarreal defender has persistently been linked with a move to Old Trafford, with Real Madrid also lurking.

But, currently away with Spain at Euro 2020, Torres isn’t concerned about his future.

Quizzed by Goal about speculation, the 24-year-old said: “I have a contract at Villarreal, I just won the first title for the club, we have qualified for the Champions League and it is something that excites me a lot.

“Now I’m focused on the Euros. Then the Super Cup and nice things will come, so I’m totally calm.”

Probed further about whether those ‘nice things’ will come with Villarreal, he answered ‘yes.’

According to the MEN, the Red Devils have a ‘growing belief’ that they will sign £51m-rated Torres this summer.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are desperate to bolster their defence, with Real Madrid star Raphael Varane also linked.

Varane, 28, could follow Sergio Ramos out the door at Santiago Bernabeu, with the legendary Spain skipper’s departure having already been confirmed.

Ramos, 35, also lost his place in Luis Enrique’s Spain squad – being replaced by Torres.

On taking Ramos’ spot, Torres added: “I spoke with him several times. Both he and the coach have explained the decision.

“Sergio has spent a lot of the season injured, unfortunately. I was the first one who wanted to see him here because I appreciate him a lot.

“We are the ones who are here, we are the ones who have to take this forward.

“I’ve got on well with Sergio from the first day I came to the national team, for me he has always been a benchmark and now that he has to decide where his future is, I wish him the best and that the decision he makes is the best for him and for his family.”
