Neville pays Cristiano Ronaldo ultimate compliment by saying heading is ‘mesmerising’ and ‘like a League Two’ defender

MANCHESTER UNITED legend Gary Neville admits he is ‘mesmerised’ by old team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo’s heading.

And the 46-year-old has compared the Juventus and Portugal star’s aerial ability to that of ‘a League Two centre-half’.

Neville was previewing Portugal’s Euro 2020 clash against Germany when the analysis fell on Ronaldo’s heading.

Neville said: “It’s mesmerising. Honestly the way he heads the ball is like a League Two centre half – he’s absolutely incredible.

“His spring, his timing, the technical aspect… everything is absolutely perfect.

“This didn’t exist when he first came to United, this has been developed, grown, nurtured, it’s just perfection.”

The 36-year-old scored to put Portugal into the lead against Germany – but with his foot and not his head.

But Germany went in at half-time 2-1 up after Portugal TWICE put through their own net before going on to win 4-2 as Kai Havertz and Robin Gosens scored.

Ronaldo was hailed by fans as ‘the greatest aerial threat in the history of football’ after scoring an incredible header for Juventus in 2019.

Ronaldo jumped high and almost seemed to hang in the air for seconds before blasting a header home from an awkward angle.

The 45th minute goal proved to be the winner for Juventus. as they defeated Sampdoria 2-1.

Ronaldo was an amazing 8ft 5in – 2.56metres – off the ground when he made contact with the header.

He also hung in the air for a ridiculous 1.5 seconds.

Sampdoria boss Claudio Ranieri said: “Ronaldo did something that you see in the NBA, he was up in the air for an hour and a half.”

Fans were thrilled with Ronaldo’s efforts, and believe the 34-year-old isn’t showing any signs of slowing down.

One wrote on Twitter: “Cristiano Ronaldo is the greatest aerial threat in the history of football.

“The sheer height he gains via his leap is unbelievable and then his hang time exceeds anyone else! What a sensational goal.”

Another said: “Cristiano Ronaldo was 2.56m in the air when he connected with the header (8ft 5in in the air). Insane athlete. INCREDIBLE. WOW.”
