Signed from Brondby in 2006, he spent six seasons at Anfield – winning the FA Youth Cup.

Hansen played for the Reds’ reserves and made four senior appearances on loan to Bradford City.

The keeper joined Hannover in January after leaving Norwegian club Stromsgodset.

But disaster struck last month while he was driving his ride-on lawnmower around his garden.

Hansen failed to spot his pet French bulldog hiding in the long grass, and inflicted catastrophic injuries on it.

German daily Bild revealed the mutt was rushed to the local veterinary clinic and only saved after an emergency op – but had to have a leg amputated.

The trauma drove Hansen to leave his club’s quarantine hotel to spend time with his shellshocked family.

Hannover said in a statement: “Goalkeeper Martin Hansen has left the team’s quarantine hotel for pressing personal reasons.
