Derek Chisora’s miserable week goes from bad to worse as he loses £8.5k after Billy Joe Saunders is stopped by Canelo

DEREK CHISORA’S dreadful week went from bad to worse last night as he lost £8,500 after Billy Joe Saunders was beaten by Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez.

The British heavyweight suffered a second successive defeat eight days ago when he was on the wrong end of a split decision against Joseph Parker.

But Chisora was hoping his fortunes would change yesterday when he backed Saunders to cause a huge upset by beating Alvarez.

Earlier this week, Del Boy showed off a 10,000 euro bet he had placed on Saunders.

It would have led to potential winnings as £54,000 had there been an upset in Texas.

Yet it wasn’t to be as Canelo fractured Saunders’ orbital socket with an uppercut in the eighth round which lead to the Brit’s trainer Mark Tibbs throwing in the towel before the start of the ninth.

The defeat was the first of Saunders’ career as he had gone into the clash with a perfect professional record of 30-0.

Meanwhile, Canelo extends his unbeaten run to 15 fights with the Mexican not having tasted defeat since he lost to Floyd Mayweather nearly eight years ago.

Chisora was not the only fighter to splash the cash on a bet for Canelo-Saunders.

Chris Eubank Jr also lumped on £10k of his own but he backed Canelo instead.

Canelo has now won 15 world title belts by the age of just 30

Before the fight, Eubank tweeted: “The bet has been placed! Billy Schmoe Saunders to get cleaned out by Canelo Alvarez this Saturday.

“Oh… & the 10k I stand to win will all go to charity.”

Eubank, 31, was beaten by Saunders, also 31, in 2014 and the pair have feuded ever since.
