TOTTENHAM have beefed up security at tomorrow’s home Premier League clash with Southampton – amid fears of protests against the new European Super League.
Spurs are one of six English clubs involved in the dastardly plot that was tonight left in tatters after Chelsea and Manchester City pulled out.
But the move has been strongly opposed by their own supporters and the club are worried some of them might try to make the strength of their feelings known before, during or after their clash with the Saints.
So the North Londoners will have extra stewards and patrols on duty in a bid to avoid any flashpoints.
SunSport exclusively revealed Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has been ‘shaken’ by the Super League backlash.
Interim boss Ryan Mason refused to be drawn on the controversial topic at his first press conference yesterday.
When asked about it, he said: “As you can probably imagine, since 10 or 11 o’clock yesterday, my mind has been consumed by so many other things.
“I can’t give an honest answer if I don’t actually know what the situation consists of, so at the moment I’m not the person to ask. I don’t know enough about it, I don’t think a thing about it to answer the question.
“I need to know all the information before I answer a question on it. My mind has been deep in a laptop or on the training pitch or trying to help the players in the classroom in the last 24 or 48 hours.
“I don’t know anything about the situation for me to comment on the fans, the football club, anything. I can’t answer that question.”
