Jack Grealish deserves Premier League player of season after ‘incredible’ Aston Villa season, says Harry Redknapp

HARRY REDKNAPP reckons ‘incredible’ Jack Grealish deserves to be player of the year this season.

And the former Spurs and West Ham boss would pick the Aston Villa star over Phil Foden, James Maddison and Mason Mount in his England side.

Redknapp, who has recently taken up an invitation to help his pal Jonathan Woodgate at former club Bournemouth, also thinks Man City have the title sewn up.

Phil Foden played a starring role in City’s thrashing of Liverpool over the weekend, but the 73-year-old would still plump for Grealish.

He said: “I love Phil Foden, he’s fantastic. But we’re over-loaded in that position, we’ve got so many good players there and it’s lovely to be spoiled for choice.

“Hopefully there’s more for room for more than one of them.

“I love to see teams go and attack and I love Jack Grealish. I’m a massive fan of his, I think he’s incredible.

“For me, I think he’s been the footballer of the year so far, if I was voting I’d pick him. He’s dragged Aston Villa up the league, he’s a massive part of what they’ve achieved this year.

“Foden is an amazing young player, and a lot younger, what a future he has.

“Mason Mount as well. And I love James Maddison. They’re my type of players, I love people like that. They’ve got real ability, they can do things, they can really play.”

With the league title done and dusted, Redknapp reckons it’s a fight between three clubs for the last spot in the top four.

And he thinks his old club Spurs aren’t out of the running just yet.

He added: “It’s Man City’s league now, game over as far as I’m concerned. They look different class, I can’t see anybody catching them.

“The only danger I thought were Liverpool, it looked a bit of a two horse race, but now they’re ten points behind it looks impossible.

“City look in great form, they look fantastic at the moment. Man United have done well but I don’t see them catching City.

“Tottenham have been difficult. I still think they’ve got a fantastic squad and a good group of players. They had a good win against West Brom and I still think they could push for the top four.

“At the moment I reckon that would be Man City, Liverpool, United and then it’s a toss-up between Chelsea, Leicester and Spurs.”
