Gianluigi Buffon ‘set to escape one-match ban for BLASPHEMY’ after claims Juventus legend shouted ‘God is a pig’

JUVENTUS goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon is set to escape a one-match ban for BLASPHEMY following an expression he used during last week’s clash against Inter Milan.

The incident is believed to have happened after Lautaro Martinez opened the scoring in the Coppa Italia semi-final first leg, which the Old Lady went on to win 2-1.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the Sporting Judge had to make a decision after the referee Gianpaolo Calvarese failed to include the incident in his report.

Audio is said to be insufficiently clear, with Buffon, 43, to be let off the hook over the alleged remark.

However he is still being investigated over another blasphemous expression he is claimed to have used during Juve’s 4-0 win against Parma in December.

The Daily Mail states that Buffon shouted ‘Porco Dio’ to an Old Lady team-mate last year, with the remark translating to ‘God is a pig’.

He is believed to have yelled the slur after telling Parma midfielder Manolo Portanov: “I want to see you stay there, running and suffering.”

Gazzetta dello Sport has reported that for this violation, a decision on whether he will face punishment will be revealed within the next few days.

Blasphemy is often considered the worst type of swearing in the Italian language.

In 2010, a ‘Blasphemy Law’ was introduced in Italy, with a number of players being caught out.

Roma midfielder Bryan Cristante was banned for a game in December for a blasphemous phrase during the Serie A side’s 5-1 win over Bologna.

And former Empoli boss Giuseppe Iachini was given a touchline ban in his first game in charge in 2018 for making offensive comments.

Meanwhile Juve midfielder Rolando Mandragora copped a one-game ban for a similar offence the same year.
