Chelsea boss Frank Lampard admits I’ll ‘always feel the heat’ after humbling against Man City

FRANK LAMPARD admits he will ‘always feel the heat’ as pressure mounts on the Chelsea boss.

The Blues were crushed by Manchester City inside 34 minutes for a fourth defeat in six Prem games.

Lampard said: “I’m not going to speak for people above me — or the board — because I can never do that.

“That’s why I couldn’t answer a month ago about me getting a new contract and why I can’t answer what they’re thinking about now.”

Lampard claims worrying about being sacked will only derail him in his bid to turn Chelsea around.

He admitted: “I will always feel the heat.

“I felt the heat when we were on our good run because I know that around the corner can be the negative.

“And we are not a team that has been churning out results and has got to the level of Liverpool or Manchester City.

“It is my job to focus on working on the players, not what the people above are thinking — that would just distract me and I can’t do it.

“We went 16 games unbeaten and a month ago everyone was asking me about where we can go, where am I going to go, where’s the new contract?

“Now people will be saying the opposite — I can’t control that. The pressure remains constant in this job and you know in tough moments that will be there.”

Chelsea, who have had ten managers in 12 years, slipped to eighth place.

A month ago they went top after beating Leeds.

Lampard splashed more than £220million on six new players last year — including £48m struggling striker Timo Werner.

But he insists his young side must learn some tough lessons after City crushed them.

llkay Gundogan, Phil Foden and Kevin De Bruyne scored in 16 first-half minutes before Callum Hudson-Odoi hit a late Chelsea consolation.

Boss Lampard said: “I have belief in the group.

“Any rebuild takes pain — pain behind the scenes and on the pitch. This is a difficult period.

“City have top players that are Premier League greats, which De Bruyne and Raheem Sterling now are. We are not that.”
