Chelsea ace Werner admits he’s ‘struggling’ in ‘tougher’ Premier League and players hit ‘harder’ than expected

CHELSEA forward Timo Werner has insisted the Premier League is ‘tougher’ than he expected it to be.

The 24-year-old is still finding his feet following his £47.5 million summer switch from German side RB Leipzig.

Werner has scored four goals in 13 Premier League appearances this season.

He has quickly realised that football in England is a lot more physical than it is in the Bundesliga.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Werner said: “It does matter how you much cost.

“It’s always a bit of pressure when you come to a new club.

“But I think I can handle it very well. It’s not something new.

“The pressure is a little bit higher than the previous years but I think good footballers are the best under pressure and that’s my plan, I can do very well under pressure.

“The Premier League is a little bit different to my old league. It’s tougher than I thought.

“The contact here is harder than in Germany, it’s what I expected but not like this.”

The 35-cap Germany international has not scored in his last eight games across all competitions.

He has admitted that he is ‘struggling’ due to Chelsea’s hectic run of fixtures during the festive period.

He added: “The beginning was very good, but now after a lot of games I’m struggling a little.

“I think it’s hard when you play every three days, and on Saturday against teams that can rest the whole week.

“It makes it tough to be the best in every game but the Premier League is very fun to play in.”

Writing exclusively for The Sun, Harry Redknapp said Werner is yet to justify his transfer fee.

But ex-Blues star Joe Cole has urged fans to be patient with him following the defeat to Wolves.

Werner has made a habit of missing easy chances in front of goal for Chelsea this season.

He was left with his head in hands after missing from point-blank range against Leeds.

And he added another missed sitter to his growing collection with an absolute howler against Rennes.
