Bruno Fernandes, Victor Lindelof and Daniel James also scored as Leeds netted two consolations through Liam Cooper and Stuart Dallas.

Here are the United player ratings from SunSport’s Anthony Chapman.

DAVID DE GEA – 7

Did his duty when called upon despite only facing three shots on target from Leeds.

Made a good save from Raphinha in first half even though strike was ruled out for offside, and denied the Brazilian a second time later on.

AARON WAN-BISSAKA – 7

Always alert to danger as he marshalled the right flank.

Didn’t let much past him and linked up well with James.

VICTOR LINDELOF – 8

Pace was needed in defence but it paid off in attack as well.

Lindelof pounced at the back post to poke in United’s fourth to crown a fine game.

HARRY MAGUIRE – 7

Looked like a captain tonight with a commanding performance.

Organised his defence well and made it hard for Leeds to fire shots off at goal.

LUKE SHAW – 7

Looked composed further up the pitch but was found lacking once or twice in defence.

Knows he has Alex Telles breathing down his neck and should take heart from his effort today.

SCOTT McTOMINAY – 9 (MOTM)

Incredible goal-scoring display from the Scot as he put United two goals up in the first three minutes.

Worked his socks off in midfield and matched Leeds’ intensity all game while also getting an assist later on.

FRED – 7

Eclipsed by his midfield teammate but was solid enough.

Was often bypassed by lightning-quick Leeds attacks and occasionally struggled to track his runner.

DANIEL JAMES – 8

Received a yellow for diving but still had his best games in a United shirt for months.

Pace gave Leeds’ defence plenty of bother and capped his performance with a good finish.

BRUNO FERNANDES – 8

Another fine performance from the playmaker as he put himself about.

Set up McTominay for United’s opener before getting on the scoresheet to make it 3-0 while netting the sixth from the spot.

MARCUS RASHFORD – 8

Full of confidence after his Fifa Foundation award during the week.

He set the tone with some excellent dribbles and runs, putting the Leeds defence on the back peddle from minute one.

ANTHONY MARTIAL – 8

A excellent showing in attack from the sometimes inconsistent Frenchman.

He left Old Trafford with two assists and was a constant threat with his movement through the channels.

Alex Telles (for Shaw, 60′) – 7

Kept United’s left looking solid and made a good defensive headed clearance shortly after coming on.

Edinson Cavani (for Rashford, 70′) – 6

Showed flashes of excellence as he harried Leeds’ tiring backline.

Donny van de Beek (for Fernandes, 70′) – 6
