Wague shattered his knee as he crashed into the goalpost when he tried to make a clearance.
The Senegalese star was left in a heap on the floor before he was carried off on a stretcher.
Reports immediately claimed that he could be forced to retire as a result of the injury.
But Barcelona have provided an update following his knee surgery.
Wague went under the knife on Saturday morning to repair the ligament damage.
The operation was completed by Dr Ramon Cugat, who is known as the ‘Lionel Messi of medicine’.
And the club think he will need nine months of recovery before he returns to the pitch.
A statement on the club website: “FC Barcelona player Moussa Wague, on loan this season to PAOK Salonika, has successfully undergone an operation this Saturday morning to repair and reconstruct patellar ligament in his right knee.
