DEJAN LOVREN had viewers in hysterics last night after scoring one of the most spectacular own goals of recent times.
The former Liverpool defender is well-known for being his own biggest fan.
Dejan Lovren was left red-faced last night for Zenit
He attempted to chest the ball back to his goalkeeper against Spartak Moscow
His power took the ball over the keeper and into the net to hand the visitors an equaliser
But even he cannot have had much of a defence after he comically lobbed his own Zenit St Petersburg goalkeeper to gift Spartak Moscow an equaliser last night.
Croatian star Lovren, 31, had acres of space after the ball was headed into the area.
Despite his vast years of playing at the top level for club and country, the star went to chest it back to the stopper but got his connection completely wrong.
Underestimating the power of himself, he could only watch on in horror as the ball looped over the ‘keeper in hilarious fashion.
Fortunately for him he was bailed out by his team-mates late on.
Yaroslav Rakitskiy fired Zenit 2-1 ahead with just over 15 minutes remaining before Artem Dzyuba added a third in additional time.
Lovren spent six years with Liverpool following an impressive spell at Southampton.
Having helped them to win the Champions League in 2019, the ex-Lyon ace then played his part as the Reds ended their 30-year wait to win the title earlier this year.
That would be his final act for Jurgen Klopp’s side, leaving Merseyside to head to Russia.
He penned a three-year contract with Zenit in July.
Lovren has never been one to play down his own talents, saying previously: “I think people should recognise that I am also one of the best defenders in the world and not just talk nonsense.”
In an interview with Copa90 in November 2018 he named Virgil Van Dijk, Thiago Silva, Sergio Ramos, Rafael Varane and himself as the top five defenders on the planet.
