Gary Neville slams ‘bored’ Man City stars as Man Utd legend claims Pep Guardiola’s side are ‘nowhere near’ title winners

GARY NEVILLE slammed Manchester City for looking ‘bored’ and claimed Pep Guardiola MUST win the Premier League this season.

The Red Devils legend was speaking after a dire Manchester derby finished 0-0 with just FOUR shots on target registered at Old Trafford.

An uninspired City side appeared to settle for a point in the drab draw which leaves them behind United – and five points off leaders Tottenham and Liverpool.

On Sky Sports, Neville said: “There was no intent from either team and either managers.

“If this had been Jose Mourinho we would have called it parking the bus and terrible. That’s the reality and we shouldn’t expect that from these two.

“Both teams played mid week but we put a lot of emphasis on the Premier League and the thrill and the risk to winning in a game and you couldn’t say any of that today. I am surprised at City.

“Looked like a team that is bored.

“They have to go and win the league. City have no option but to win the league.

“At the end it may build confidence and they go on a run but this isn’t what City or Pep should want.

“They are a shadow of the team that won the league two years ago. They are nowhere near.

“We are already looking back and referring to the team that was a few years ago and how good it was compared to now.

“City could surprise us and win the league but they look like all the juice has been squeezed out of the orange. De Bruyne looks like he is looking around and thinking ‘I had better teammates before’.”

Neville’s fellow pundit Roy Keane was also scathing in his critique of City – believing this Guardiola side does not have the ability to take home the title.

He added: “City were predictable and there was a lack of quality.

“When the game is there for you – go get it. There was quality on the pitch but I never felt City would score many goals.

“There isn’t a title in this City team. Aguero seems to be carrying weight every time he comes back and Jesus won’t fire you to the title.”

Neville suggested Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be ‘relieved’ and Irishman Keane agreed the Norwegian ‘will take the point’ after a week which saw his side dumped out of the Champions League.

Neville added: “After what happened mid-week pressure was building. He is relieved to come through it and have a week to think about the Leeds game.

“Ole has to now dominate games. They have been won on the counter or in moments so far. They haven’t had real performances.

“This isn’t a performance that will win titles. But to have a manager win titles here you have to give him the players. He needed a centre-back and a winger.

Give Ole until the summer. I still think he needs to get his hand on a trophy.”

“They are still fudging it. Square pegs in round holes all the time. They haven’t given any manager in the last five or six years that chance.”

Former no-nonsense midfielder Keane added: “You always feel for Ole it’s about surviving the job. Every time they lose its Ole’s fault, if they win he is lucky. The criticism of his team, he will take the point.

“Give Ole until the summer. I still think he needs to get his hand on a trophy. They celebrated getting into top four but they are out of it already anyway.”
