David De Gea replaced by Dean Henderson at half-time of Southampton clash after Man Utd No1 suffers knee injury

DAVID DE GEA was replaced at half-time by Dean Henderson after hurting himself trying to stop Southampton’s second goal.

It meant a first Premier League appearance in a Red Devils shirt for Henderson.

De Gea looked to be struggling after crashing into the post trying to stop a wonderful free-kick from James Ward-Prowse.

The Spanish goalkeeper was able to continue until the end of the first-half following the goal in the 33rd minute.

But Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took the decision to replace De Gea at the break.

Henderson had already appeared in three matches this season, including United’s Champions League defeat at Istanbul Basaksehir and two Carabao Cup games.

In his second season on loan at Sheffield United, the England international had played 36 times in the Premier League.

And he entered the pitch on Sunday hoping to be more of an onlooker than anything else.

United began the second period 2-0 down to Southampton.

Jan Bednarek’s near-post flick gave Saints the lead on Sunday before Ward-Prowse’s free-kick, which De Gea got a hand on but could not keep out.

If De Gea is to sit out an extended period of action, he will join Paul Pogba, Scott McTominay, Eric Bailly and Luke Shaw in the Red Devils treatment room.

Anthony Martial also sat out the match having fallen ill overnight.
