Daniel Dubois ‘three or four years off world title’ after being stunned by Joe Joyce, claims David Haye

DANIEL DUBOIS is ‘three or four years’ off a world title after his shattering defeat to Joe Joyce, says former champ David Haye.

Despite being a big favourite, Dubois was battered into his first loss by Olympic silver medallist Joyce.

It was all over in the tenth when Joyce landed a jab to Dubois’ closed and heavily swollen left eye.

Triple D sank to one knee, failed to beat referee Ian John Lewis’ count, and it was all over.

Speaking after the shock win at Church House in Westminster, Haye said: “I think Dubois is still three or four years off a world title.”

The 40-year-old former cruiserweight and heavyweight world champ was also critical at how the fight ended.

He added: “I was very unhappy with the way that he took a knee, after taking a shot to the eye.

“It is the hurt game. I am sure Carl [Frampton] is the same.”

Former two-weight world champ Frampton was also a BT Sport studio guest, and he claimed Dubois ‘will be haunted and regret’ not getting to his feet.

The Northern Irishman said: “I think that we all like Dubois, he’s a likeable guy.

“But if it’s someone we didn’t like wed say he’s a quitter. And I think he quit there.

“I have to be brutally honest, let’s call a spade a spade, he took a knee from a shot in the eye.

“His eye was a mess, his eye was closed but I get dragged out of the ring. I wouldn’t take a knee and get pulled out.”

Dubois was handed his first defeat, while Joyce remains unbeaten and left with the British, Commonwealth and European heavyweight titles.

And he inherits Dubois’ No2 ranking in the WBO, as he called out No1 rated Oleksandr Usyk.
