The cartoon depicting the two former footballers meeting in heaven pulled on fans heartstrings
Others were less convinced by the tribute however
Tributes have poured in from the likes of Pele, Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, David Beckham and Usain Bolt.
While Napoli fans created a spectacular ‘wall of fire train’ in tribute to Maradona, the club’s greatest ever player.
But Nantes have left fans with mixed emotions after posting a cartoon of Maradona and their former player Sala – who died back in January 2019 in a tragic plane crash.
The French club’s illustration showed the two late Argentine footballers greeting each other in heaven.
The tweet has been liked over 73,000 times and fans have flooded in with reaction as they remember the two former players.
One fan tweeted: “Two stars who will be able to party together in paradise”.
Another said: “It breaks my heart”.
However, the cartoon did split opinion as a third added: “Something uncomfortable about this”.
A fourth noted: “This doesn’t feel right to me idk why”.
Elsewhere, Napoli are set to rename their Stadio San Paolo after Maradona following the club legend’s death.
One of his other clubs, Boca Juniors, also turned off all the lights of the historic La Bombonera stadium except for Maradona’s VIP box.
