Tottenham star Ndombele confirms rift with Mourinho but insists they have ‘put egos to one side for sake of club’

TOTTENHAM’S record buy Tanguy Ndombele has labelled both Jose Mourinho and himself stubborn egotists – but said they have buried the hatchet for the club’s sake.

France midfielder Ndombele had a dismal debut season with Spurs following his £65million move from Lyon last year.

He made just 12 Premier League starts, with boss Mourinho unhappy at his fitness levels and attitude.

But the 23-year-old has begun the new campaign well – and he kick-started Spurs’ shock 6-1 win at Manchester United on Sunday.

Ndombele cancelled out Bruno Fernandes’ second-minute penalty, before two goals apiece from Heung-Min Son and Harry Kane, plus another from Serge Aurier, underlined the north Londoners’ triumph.

Ndombele admitted: “The manager and I had a number of differences of opinion last season.

“But since then we have each tried to put our egos to one side, and to move on for the sake of the club.

“For the time being things are working for the best, and let’s try to continue in this manner.”

Spurs ran riot at Old Trafford as Ndombele’s compatriot Anthony Martial saw red for United.

The midfielder added: “It was an exceptional result.  It is no small matter for sure, and everything we tried came off.

“Nobody would have backed us to achieve it, especially to win 6-1 after giving away a penalty in the first minute.

“But we managed to keep our heads up, and soon score our first two goals.
“Then Anthony’s red card definitely changed the game.”
