Man Utd’s bid to sign Alex Telles stalls as Ed Woodward ‘refuses to pay tiny £18m transfer fee to Porto’

MAN UTD’S proposed move for Alex Telles has hit the skids as Ed Woodward doesn’t want to pay the £18m fee that Porto have asked for.

Woodward believes that as Porto are asking for such a low price for the Telles, they will further reduce their valuation if United play hardball.

Telles, 27, has a year left on his contract and the Portuguese club would prefer to cash in on him now rather than lose him on a free next summer.

The transfer fee seems to be the only issue, as it has been reported that Telles and United have already agreed on personal terms.

United have offered Telles a five-year contract worth £3.7m per year, according to A Bola.

Despite Woodward’s stance, A Bola also claim that with the deal the player’s agent Pini Zahivi has been negotiating, “everything leads one to believe that FC Porto’s number 13 will soon become a Red Devil.

If they want to wrap up the Telles deal, United will have to move quick, as PSG have also expressed their interest in the player.

Amidst all the speculation on his career, Telles is remaining focused on the task at hand.

Speaking on his future he said: “I have people who work for me, I just have to focus on what my job is.

“If I knew anything, I wouldn’t need to have people working for me.

“I have people who take care of that and I have to focus on my work.”

Porto boss Sergio Conceicao approves of Telles’ attitude and said: “I must praise and emphasise Alex’s professionalism.

“It is not easy with all this news to play the game he played today.

“I know the character and personality of the players and I know that until the last day, be it tomorrow or 10 years from now, they will do their best.”
