Van De Beek’s future was called into question over the weekend when he was left out of a friendly against Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday.
Ajax boss Erik ten Hag confirmed there were “developments” over his future after United stepped up their chase.
And those developments are appearing to move quickly with United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer eager to get the deal over the line.
According to Sport, Van de Beek has already revealed he will fly to England next week to finalise his transfer.
Solskjaer wants more options in midfield and is eyeing a trio of Paul Pogba, Van de Beek and Bruno Fernandes.
Van de Beek will be United’s first major summer signing unless Barcelona gazump the deal with a late offer.
Barca’s new boss Ronald Koeman is a huge admirer having managed him during his time as Holland boss.
Van de Beek would be keen to reunite with Koeman at the Nou Camp but the club are baulking at his asking price because of the pandemic.
He has played a key role in Ajax’s success over the last two years – but they will sell him now to fund new recruits.
He helped them reach the Champions League semi-finals in 2019 and become Dutch Eredivsie champions last season.
