And he dedicated his performance to actor Chadwick Boseman, who tragically passed away this morning.
Award-winning Black Panther actor Boseman, beloved by fans across the world, was just 43-years-old.
Hamilton, 35, told Sky Sports: “Today, a very clean session. Every lap was getting better and better.
“It’s a very important pole to me – I woke up to the saddest news of Chadwick passing away.
“It’s been such a heavy year for all of us. But that news broke me.
“He was such a shining light. Wakanda forever.
“I just wanted to come out today and drive to perfection.”
Max Verstappen claimed third in his Red Bull.
While Daniel Ricciardo took fourth under the drizzle in Stavelot – his best ever qualifying performance at Spa.

After his incredible performance, Hamilton added: “We’re not the strongest in the first and last section but we’re good in the middle section.
“I wanted to go out first, in the clean air, and it worked out perfectly.
“Turn 1 has been a weakness in the last few years, but I was really good there and I’m happy with that.”
