Jurgen Klopp plans to take year out after Liverpool contract ends in 2024 and admits he may never return to management

JURGEN KLOPP has revealed he plans to take year off when his Liverpool contract ends in 2024 – before admitting he may never return to management.

The German chief, 53, masterminded Liverpool’s 2018-19 Champions League title and the club’s first-ever Premier League crown.

Now Klopp has revealed he will see out his current contract at Anfield – which expires in 2024 – then take a year off before deciding whether or not to call it a day.

Klopp told German outlet Sport Buzzer: “I’ll take a year off and ask myself if I miss football.

“If I say no, then that will be the end of coach Jurgen Klopp.

“If one day I am no longer a coach, there is one thing I will not miss – the brutal tension immediately before the game.”

‘CLUB, COUNTRY OR NOTHING’

Klopp had previously stated his intention to take a year off after seeing out his Kop contract.

Last month, the German said: “[I will have] four more years at Liverpool, then do nothing for a year.

“[After that] maybe a club, a national team or nothing at all.

“[I will definitely do] what I want…. what I want to do.

“In five years the world can look very different again.”

Meanwhile, Klopp insisted Liverpool are NOT defending their title in 2020-21 – as they are desperate to win new ones.

The Anfield chief continued: “The whole club is hot for the new season, we wants to be even better.

“We want to chase the opponents and the ball over the entire field, continue to be a super unpleasant team that is not fun to play.

“We’re not defending any titles, we want to get new ones, we’ve only just started winning.”
